U•Con 2009 preregistration ends soon
U•Con is almost upon us. We will extend preregistration until Thursday November 5 at 11:59pm! Tell all your friends to come to the convention or check out the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVxoooBQ5ws

Come meet Sid Meier at one of his talks! http://www.ucon-gaming.org/feature/goh.php

To celebrate our guest of honor, we've recently added 4-player networked Civilization IV sponsored by Digital Ops! Purchase your tickets during preregistration to reserve your spot: http://www.ucon-gaming.org/events/db/search.php?s_game=Civilization+IV

We're also thrilled about our console games sponsored by Wolverine Soft. Come play 16-player networked Halo and Gears of War! Join us for Rock Band and Dance Dance Revolution. Play Super Smash Bros Brawl and Mario Kart on the Wii. All video games will rotate with hourly on first-come-first-serve basis. Check out our schedule: http://www.ucon-gaming.org/feature/videogames.php

U•Con will host a board games drive. "Education Project for Homeless Youth" is looking for games that are easily portable (small and few pieces), suitable for a variety of ages, and good for a range of group sizes. Participating exhibitors will have games available for purchase which meet these criteria. The project takes direct donations of product or money and they will provide appropriate documentation for charitable tax deductions. More information on the charity is available here: http://www.wash.k12.mi.us/students/ephy.cfm

See you next week!

U-Con 2009 Preregistration OPEN
Friends!

This is a very exciting year for U-Con. We have so many new things, and so much of what you love will be back.

What’s new? We are honored to have Sid Meier as our guest. He’ll speak at several seminars on his games and career. We are also launching a new video game track. Our partners at Wolverine Soft (http://wolverinesoft.com) will bring console games. We have a schedule posted online for video games but it is subject to change. Additionally, we’re thrilled to host the Gen Con games library.

What’s the same? We have many GMs back who bring a wide variety of events. We have the Origins Awards Game Room, the Smithee Awards, Paint and Take, the auction, and of course the exhibitors hall. This U-Con has more events at the open of preregistration than we’ve ever had. However, we’ll continue to accept events until we have no space left. We’re also accepting volunteers, so contact us if you are interested.

For more info, see the following links:

U•Con 2009 events and Guest of Honor
Friends of U-Con!

We are come up to an important milestone for event submission. Please get your events in by 11:59p on Friday Sept 11. We will continue to accept events, but events which we receive after that time will be more difficult to place in the schedule (due to space limitations and already scheduled games, etc). So, please get your games in now. http://www.ucon-gaming.org/gm/submit.php

U-Con is looking forward to hosting the new video game track. We are working to develop a schedule of games and hope to have it ready when preregistration opens later this month.

Our Guest of Honor *Sid Meier* will join us to talk about the computer games industry and the games he's been involved with. We are thrilled to have him! http://www.ucon-gaming.org/feature/goh.php

See you in November!

U•Con Events Submissions
Friends of U-Con!

Events are starting to fill up. We hope to make pre-registration and the event list available in early to mid September. Please get your events in soon. We are willing to add your events later, but having them in before the pre-registration deadline will assure that folks looking for events won't miss them. (http://www.ucon-gaming.org/gm/submit.php)

We also seek volunteers to help us keep the convention running smoothly. The positions we need are easy and not physically demanding. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the volunteer coordinator via our web form (http://www.ucon-gaming.org/contact/index.php). Like gamemasters, volunteers can also qualify to have their badge refunded.

We look forward to seeing you in November.

I won a Dark Angels Battleforce!
Hi All,

I won a Dark Angels Battleforce at a raffle. It's the one that's no longer in production. I don't play Space Marines so I put it up on ebay. If anyone is interested in purchasing it, the link is HERE.

Last day to register for Ambercon 2009!
From the Con Chair:

This is, officially, the last day to register for Ambercon 20 -- so if you're planning to attend but have been holding off, it's time to go to the website:

http://www.ambercon.com

Ambercon will be April 16-19, 2009, at the Embassy Suites Livonia (our usual hotel, about 20 minutes from Detroit Metro Airport, DTW). In case you didn't know, we now have rates based on how many days you're attending, so it now makes sense to attend even if you can only make it for part of the con.

If you've already registered, I apologize for this unnecessary email. Consider it a reminder that you will soon be able to go to the website and register for games!

Hope to see you there!

Ambercon 2009 update
Posting on behalf of the Con Chair:

"Hello! Ambercon US will be April 16-19, 2009, at the Embassy Suites Livonia (our usual hotel, about 20 minutes from Detroit Metro Airport).

I wanted to write all of you a quick note to let you know that we're updating our systems and processes, and the ACUS 2009 website will be up and ready to take registrations by January 1st, 2009. We've taken attendee feedback into account, and we're going to have an all-new registration system, using an ACNW-like scheduling method, which we hope will preserve the good features of the previous ACUS process while improving it in some significant ways. We'll explain any changes when the site goes live, and we're happy to help you as needed.

This will be the 20th Ambercon US, and we're looking forward to doing some very cool stuff and hosting a lot of excellent games! (We've got some surprises in the works, too.) If you're a regular attendee, you won't want to miss this one. And if you haven't been to Ambercon in a while, consider making Ambercon 20 the one you come back to.

On behalf of the ACUS 2009 team, I'd like to thank you for your patience with the transition. We all look forward to gaming with you in April! (And don't forget to register when the site goes live on January 1st...)

Joe Saul
Chair, Ambercon 2009

P.S. Please feel free to pass this message on to any venues where Amber is discussed."

The website I work for just released this subtitler game, so I thought I'd share my geekness with the world. This is only one of the ones I've made... this thing is like crack.

Stilyagi Annual Picnic
For whatever reason the city park service breaks the day into just two
blocks, one in the morning until 2 pm, and one from 2 pm to 10 pm. We
have the latter of the two reserved on the 8th.

Ambercon 2008 upcoming deadlines
The Ambercon Graphic Design Contest deadline is tomorrow, March 3. Your artwork could be what everyone sees on Ambercon's web page and t-shirts next year! Not to mention the $100 prize. You do not need to be attending Ambercon to enter. Please see the PDF on the Ambercon web site for more information.

If you have not made your game selections yet, we are taking the online game selection form offline on Tuesday, March 4, so this is your last chance to sign up for games before the Con. This is also the deadline for registering online.

If you'd like assistance in finding someone to share a ride to or from the hotel, please contact the Rides Coordinator (rides [at] ambercon [dot] com) by March 6 with your travel information.

If you're looking for a roommate, want to talk to other attendees, etc., we have a message board on LiveJournal. You can also access it via the Message Board link on the Ambercon web site.

Looking forward to seeing everyone in March!

Ambercon 2008 game book online
The gamebook and game selection forms are now online on the Ambercon web page. Please select your games by February 8. We will be scheduling early on February 9, and if your picks are not in you will not be scheduled with the initial group, and thus will have far fewer available games to choose from.

If this is your first Ambercon, or your first one in a while, there is a page that explains how game selection works. If you still have questions after reading it, let us know.

Finally, if we haven't received your registration payment yet, you will not be able to submit your selections. If you have sent in your payment but are unable to submit your selections, please contact us.

Other deadlines of note:
The hotel reservation deadline is February 11, or whenever our room block fills up, whichever is sooner, so don't forget to get your reservations in (our group code is AMB)!

The Ambercon Graphic Design Contest deadline is March 3. Your artwork could be what everyone sees on Ambercon's web page and t-shirts next year! Not to mention the $100 prize. You do not need to be attending Ambercon to enter. Please see the PDF on the Ambercon web site for more information.

Ambercon 2008 game submission deadline is today!
This is a reminder that today (Jan. 6) is the deadline for submitting games for Ambercon 2008. If you've already submitted games, thank you! If you haven't, time is running out. We are still short on games in all slots (we have only 20% of the games we need, in fact), so please, send us your games! Don't forget, running games improves your scheduling priority when it comes time to pick what games you get into, and running four or more slots will earn you an extra $20 worth of food certificates.

Submit games.
Register.

Hope to see you all at the Con!
